Por esta razão, o estúdio de arquitetura holandês KAAN Architecten foi selecionado para projetar um novo terminal para o Amsterdam’s Schiphol Airport, batendo concorrentes de peso, como MVRDV, Skidmore, Owings & Merrill, OMA by Rem Koolhaas e UNStudio./ Amsterdam’s international airport has more than tripled its capacity in the past 20 years. So, it is not wrong to call it an “almost compact city”. And a “city” must always grow. For this reason, Dutch architectural studio KAAN Architecten has been selected to design a new terminal for Amsterdam’s Schiphol Airport , beating prestigious competitors such as MVRDV, Skidmore, Owings & Merrill, Rem Koolhaas’ firm OMA, and UNStudio.
Atualmente, o aeroporto existente atende quase 50 milhões de passageiros por ano. É tão grande que há uma filial do Rijksmuseum dentro dele. O novo terminal do Amsterdam’s Schiphol Airport, de 100.500 metros quadrados, by KAAN Architecten, atenderá 14 milhões de passageiros por ano./ Nowadays, the existing airport serves nearly 50 million passengers a year. O novo terminal terá paredes de vidro altas e um enorme telhado plano de 180 metros por 150 metros./The new terminal will have high glass walls and a huge flat roof measuring 180 by 150 meters.
A construção começará em 2020 e terminará em 2023. Como curiosidade, o Aeroporto de Schiphol iniciou operações em 1916 como uma base aérea para os militares./ The construction will start in 2020 and end in 2023.
